Elaine shared what a normal day looks like for her, and honestly—it’s tough. She’s a single mom to Avin, who has ADHD, and just getting him up, dressed, and out the door can take two hours. She said, “Just getting out the door is a victory,” and you could really feel how exhausting it is. There are meltdowns, skipped breakfasts, and no one to tag in when she’s had enough.
She doesn’t always give him medication unless it’s absolutely necessary, because she wants him to learn to cope without depending on it. But that also makes her days harder. At church, the only moment she really gets to herself is a quick meal with friends while someone helps watch Avin—and even that feels like a rare treat.
What stuck the most was when she said:
“I’m trying my best. You guys might see that I’m not trying sometimes, but I am—harder than ever.”
She talked about carrying a lot of guilt—both as a mom and as a churchgoer who sometimes feels like she’s not doing enough. But even in the chaos, she’s seen God show up in small but meaningful ways: through her church community, in little pockets of peace, and in the reminder that God doesn’t expect perfection—just honesty and dependence on Him.
