Making Sense of the Great Adventure: Defining It Through F.I.R.S.T
This message centers on our response to Jesus’ call to go, leave, give, pray, and build by embracing the Acts 2:42–47 blueprint. The church isn’t a Sunday crowd; it’s a community that lives out FIRST—a simple, practical pattern for everyday discipleship and shared life through Connect Groups. The gathering also included family updates (new home giving, Aug 2 all-ministry training, Aug 3 Communion Celebration with traditional attire and hospitality, Aug 22 home communion online) and a time of joyful connection across the room.
Key Themes
-
FIRST: our Acts 2 response
-
Fellowship deeply: real partnership, shared burdens, accountability, meals, and joy—more than attendance.
-
Immerse in the Word: Scripture shapes convictions and decisions; we don’t “snack” on it.
-
Remember the Cross: Christ stays central—His body and blood define our identity and relationships.
-
Seek God in prayer: prayer as lifestyle, not a line we say; heaven’s power for earth’s needs.
-
Testify and live it out: everyday witness in homes, workplaces, and online.
-
-
Connect Groups are where “church” becomes family
Testimonies showed practical love:-
Fennel CG walked with a sister through toxic workplace stress—wisdom, prayer, and steady support (plus hospitality that builds trust).
-
Youth (Isaac & Keith) modeled honest friendship that corrects, prays, and keeps Jesus present “where two or three gather.”
-
Pakistani CG embodied Romans 12 community—meals, hospital visits, financial help, mourning together, celebrating together.
-
Cheras CG carried a family through serious illness—prayer, food, childcare, and persistent presence; helped a brother integrate.
-
The Collective (young adults/working adults) practiced Galatians 6:2—burden sharing, prayer chains, childcare, and simply “being there” in grief.
-
-
Community takes risk and reciprocity
Vulnerability (share the real burdens), protection (no gossip), and contribution (don’t just receive—deposit into others). When every “part” works, the body is healthy. -
Generosity builds the house
Open-handed giving (including to the new permanent home) is part of discipleship; even our wallets are converted.
Final Challenge
Live FIRST this week—join or commit to a Connect Group, show up, and fellowship deeply. Set daily rhythms to immerse in the Word, remember the Cross (gratitude at meals), and seek God in prayer. Then testify: invite someone to the Aug 3 Communion Celebration (come in your traditional attire), and practice one concrete act of generosity or burden-bearing for someone in your circle. We know the blueprint—now let’s do it together.
