Living Right in a Broken World: The Clash of Values | Rev. Elisha Satvinder

February 16, 2025
Summary And Key Points

This sermon continues the series on the book of Titus, focusing on the tension between godly values and the shifting morals of the world. Paul’s letter to Titus emphasizes the importance of sound doctrine, integrity, and faithful living in a culture that often contradicts God’s truth. Believers are called not only to know the Gospel but to let it shape their lives, ensuring their actions reflect their faith.

This message builds on the church’s theme of Faith, Truth, and Holiness, urging believers to pursue integrity, live as faithful witnesses, and allow God’s truth to transform them from the inside out.

Four Key Themes in Titus

  1. Sound Doctrine Leads to Godly Living – Understanding and applying God’s truth is essential for a life that honors Him. Right belief should shape right behavior.
  2. Integrity in Leadership and Life – True spiritual maturity is marked by honesty, humility, and a commitment to righteousness in all areas of life.
  3. A Faithful Witness in a Corrupt Culture – Believers are called to be salt and light, standing firm in biblical truth even when cultural values oppose it.
  4. The Power of Good Works – God’s call to good works goes beyond charity; it is about living a life that influences others for Christ.

The Relationship Between Belief and Behavior

Paul warns Titus that many claim to know God, but their actions deny Him (Titus 1:16). True faith is not just spoken—it is lived. This means:

  • Aligning personal and professional life with God’s standards.
  • Demonstrating honesty, humility, and faithfulness in relationships and responsibilities.
  • Rejecting moral compromise and standing firm in biblical values.

Guarding Against the Influence of the World

Jesus warned against the “yeast” of the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodians, symbolizing false teaching, hypocrisy, and compromise. A small amount of cultural influence can subtly lead believers away from God’s truth. Just as yeast spreads through dough, unchecked sin and worldly values can shape hearts and minds.

The challenge for believers is to ensure that the leaven of the Gospel—not the world—permeates their lives.

Call to Action: Letting the Kingdom of God Transform Us

  1. Embrace the Gospel Daily – Salvation is not just a one-time event but a lifelong process of transformation. Let God’s word shape your heart and actions.
  2. Yield to the Holy Spirit – Be receptive to His guidance, allowing Him to refine character, correct errors, and cultivate Christlike qualities.
  3. Commit to Reaching One Person – Intentionally pray for and engage with at least one person this year, believing for their salvation and discipleship.

Final Challenge: Pursue Holiness, Truth, and Mission

God’s kingdom is meant to permeate every area of life, bringing righteousness, peace, and joy. The question remains: Will you allow His truth to transform you, and will you help bring His kingdom to others?
