I grew up in a Christian family. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve attended church in different places with my family and my godfamily, so the church environment has always been familiar to me.

Then I lost my way for a while, such is the folly of man. In the last couple of years, through a difficult season in my life, I rediscovered the Word and came back to the fold of the church.

When God spoke to me about rekindling that relationship, I had to decide which church to go to. To be honest, I did a bit of church shopping. I tried different churches, some very large, some not so large.

What speaks to me most about NCC is Dignity. I knew about this church through Pastor Foo Seng and Jin Ai, but I knew about it even before that, through Dignity’s work. I first heard about it from my brother, who used to work at the US Embassy and told me about it when Obama visited. Since then I’ve come to know people who work there.

That says a lot about a church’s impact on the wider community. Church isn’t only for people of the faith, and it shouldn’t focus only on the people inside it. That really spoke to me, and it’s why I felt comfortable putting down roots here. I feel I’m part of something bigger.

I’m also excited about the diversity of voices and people at NCC. Diversity brings good and not-so-good things, but ultimately we are better off because of it.
