I’ve been at NCC for about three years. I grew up in a Christian family and went to church growing up, but as a young woman I reached a point where I needed to decide for myself what my faith meant.

If you grew up with parents or guardians who are Christian, at some point you may wonder how much of your faith is actually yours and how much you’ve inherited. Everyone goes through it.

So I started visiting different churches. Like any Malaysian, I also looked at location. I wanted to be able to engage in church life, not just on Sundays but at ministry events during the week. NCC has a great website (kudos to the team, who often go unacknowledged), and that’s how I came to know the church.

For me, church is where we receive God’s Word. It’s also where we serve and live out the Christian life, which is very hard to do if you aren’t connected to a community. You can sign up for all kinds of things and learn, beyond head knowledge, what it’s like to work alongside other believers, share a vision, and see God’s goodness. Some of these things only happen when we’re together. God can certainly work when we’re alone, but I think that’s why we’re commanded to meet together.

The other reason I chose NCC is how consistently people here care for each other. Anyone can put on sporadic moments of passion or high praise. Sustained care is different, and it’s very hard to keep up if it isn’t real. I see it in prayer, in people following up, in the ministries. These things don’t happen unless there is a powerful God behind it all.

I’ve felt that in my three years here. That’s why I’ve chosen NCC.
