Behold, I Do A New Thing: Lazarus, Come Forth

We think we know this Jesus. The one who turns up late and says something comforting about heaven.
Martha thought so too. When He finally came, she told Him exactly what she believed: her brother would rise again at the last day. It’s the correct answer. It’s also a way of keeping God at a safe distance, somewhere on a calendar, far from the smell of a four-day grave.
He wouldn’t take it. Not someday, He told her. I am the resurrection and the life. Present tense. Standing right there. With the body still in the tomb.
Behold, I do a new thing, God says through Isaiah. Now it shall spring forth.
That’s who meets us at Bethany. Not a comfort for later. A voice at the mouth of a grave, calling one man out by name.
He still calls names.
Join us for “Behold, I Do A New Thing: Lazarus, Come Forth” on Sunday, 19 July at 10 AM. We’d love to have you with us. 🧡
