Back to You: New Perspectives Powered by the Holy Spirit

There’s a particular kind of stuck that doesn’t come from doing too little. It comes from doing everything right and still not seeing clearly.

Nicodemus knew that feeling. A teacher, a leader, a man who’d studied the law his whole life. He came to Jesus at night with his questions, and Jesus handed him something he couldn’t study his way into: you must be born again. Flesh gives birth to flesh. The Spirit gives birth to spirit.

It’s a hard word for capable people. The new perspective we’re after, the one that finally lets us see God clearly, isn’t the next thing we accomplish.

It’s the thing the Spirit does in us. We don’t manufacture new eyes. We receive them.

This Sunday we turn back to the One who gives the sight we can’t produce on our own.

Come as you are, tired effort and all, and let the Spirit do what striving never could.
