Holy Curiosity: Small Choices, Big Encounters | Ps. Foo Seng

This sermon calls us to cultivate holy curiosity—like Moses who “turned aside” to the burning bush (Ex 3)—so God can meet us in our ordinary routines and lead us into His extraordinary purposes. It ties our church DNA (F.I.R.S.T.) with a posture of worship, generosity, and consistent, unseen faithfulness (Col 3:23).

• God in the ordinary: Moses was shepherding (not on retreat) when God spoke. Greatness is formed in routine faithfulness (Jesus the carpenter; David the shepherd; Paul’s hidden years).

• Holy vs. casual curiosity:

  • Casual = entertained, distracted, moves on.

  • Holy = pauses, leans in, responds—“I will turn aside” (Ex 3:3).

• God’s heart in our wilderness: He is present, proactive (He lit the bush), and personal (calls us by name).

• Work as worship: “Whatever you do… do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Col 3:23). Excellence even when unseen is spiritual formation.

• F.I.R.S.T. rhythms: Fellowship deeply, Immerse in the Word, Remember the Cross, Seek God in prayer, Testify & live it out—practiced in connect groups, communion, prayer gatherings.

• Small steps, big impact: Simple obedience (like turning aside—or Malala’s first blog) can unlock long-term influence.

Final challenge

This week, practice holy curiosity: in the middle of your normal routine, pause and turn aside. Treat Scripture and prayer as real encounters—expect God to speak—and do your daily tasks wholeheartedly for Him. Act on one nudge: reconcile with someone, help a classmate/colleague, start a simple habit of prayer or Scripture at a set time, or invite someone to your table/group. Trust that obedience in the ordinary is the doorway to God’s extraordinary work in and through you.
